eximo® Audio Amplifiers
eximo® incorporates a high-order feedback topology to effectively suppress error sources that might cause audio quality degradation.
This ensures very low signal distortion as well as high robustness against non-ideal system conditions, such as power supply noise/ripple.
Conventional class-D amplifiers typically require an L-C output filter to reconstruct the audio waveform before the amplified audio signal reaches the speaker*. The filter accounts for a large portion of the size and area for the total amplifier solution as well as the Bill-of-Material.
Multilevel switching significantly reduces the switching content of the output signal. Therefore, in most cases, eximo® amplifiers can drive speakers directly, without the use of an L-C filter – even in higher-powered applications. This enables ultra-compact solutions and design freedom in the target application.
Multilevel modulation schemes have lower EMI signal content than conventional class-D amplifiers. eximo® amplifiers are therefore easier to integrate in applications, without the need for significant filtering to combat unwanted interference.
Power losses in the audio amplifier significantly affect battery lifetime in portable audio products. By cutting power losses, eximo® amplifiers allow audio product designers to either extend battery lifetime or reduce the size of the costly Li-Ion battery.
The low heat dissipation of eximo® amplifiers lead to a generally cooler operation inside the audio application. This gives a much larger headroom for periods of higher output power, for example during music playback at high volume levels.
Cooler operation also impacts the reliability of the audio application, due to a reduction of thermally accelerated aging of many system components.
eximo® is a highly efficient technology, offering a significant reduction in energy consumption throughout the lifetime of a consumer audio product. Implementing eximo® technology in audio and audio/video applications supports consumer electronics manufacturers in complying with new legislative requirements as well as internal eco-friendly policies.
eximo® amplifiers enable greatly reduced heatsinking as the heat dissipation during typical operation is significantly reduced. In fact, in most cases the amplifier circuit board will offer sufficient heatsinking capability, even in relatively high-powered applications where other amplifiers would require a dedicated heatsink.
